Pearls are one of the beautiful gemstones. The value of a pearl is known by its luster, surface, shape, color and size. Luster is the most vital factor in selecting pearls. The inner glow of the pearl combined with the surface brilliance reflect luster. Higher the luster, thicker the nacre or secretion from the oyster, the glow will become stronger. The cultured pearls of lower quality appear too white, chalky or dull.
